Reds Fleeing In Manchuria
(Rec. 11.30 p.m.) NANKING, Mar. G. In Manchuria Communist forces are retreating in disorder.
The Central News said: “Panicstricken Communists are crossing the Sungari at three points north of Chanugchun.” Government forces captured a bridgehead on the northern side of the Sungari River for the drive on Harbin which is still held by the Communists.
In Shantung province the Government has begun drafting 100,000 civilians to defend Tsinan against the threatening Red forces. In central Shantung both sides are struggling hard for possession of Seshui. The Communists claim that in their eastward thrust, they captured Hoshui, less than 100 miles south-west of Yenan.
