Professor H. D. Gordon, at present senior lecturer in chief of the botany 'department at the University of Tasmania, has been appointed to fill the newly-created chair of botany at Victoria University College.
A former lecturer at the New England University Coliege, Armidale, New South Wales, Dr S. Musgrove, Ph.D., M.A., was appointed professor of English at Auckland University College by the college council yesterday.
Advice of the award of the Air Force Cross to her son, Wing Commander S. W. R. Hughes, 0.8. E., RAF, has been received by Mrs H. R. Hughes, of Auckland, The award is made for exceptional valour or devotion to duty in non-operational flying.
| A motion of sympathy with the family of the late Mr H. E. Johnson was passed at yesterday’s meeting of the Whangarei Jersey Club. The president (Mr J. A. Stevens) referred to the invaluable services which the late Mr Johnson had rendered to the club, and the meeting stood for a moment in silence as a tribute to his memory. Shortly before his death the late Mr Johnson was elected to life membership of the club. /
