NEWS OF THE DAY

ACCIDENT VICTIM The condition of Mrs Mary Tyler, 65, of Dargaville, who was knocked down by a car in Water Street, Whangarei, yesterday afternoon, is satisfactory. She is suffering from abrasions and shock. BACK TO SCHOOL

After a six weeks’ vacation primary school children on Monday will return to their studies while many tiny tots will start the long journey of acquiring knowledge. District high schools will also reopen on Monday while the Whangarei boys’ and girls’ high schools will restart on Tuesday. A VERY SLEEPY DOG

Last evening, during the busy time of the late-night shopping crowd, a light brown dog of the English sheepdog breed lay stretched full length on the pavement in front of the telephone boxes in Cameron Street. The street is not particularly well lighted in this area, but, in spite of this, people were careful to walk round the animal rather than be responsible for disturbing its dreams of a dog’s heaven. The animal remained there for some time.

The new bargains offered at Henry Wilsons in ladies’ and children's twopiece suits and slack suits, e’c., should command the attention of every bargain lover. The outstanding feature of these goods is their seasonableness —every line coming in the nick of time for summer wear. r/wl
