While his claim i<> have discovered a gold reel' in the Whitianga district is still causing excitement throughout (he Coromandel Peninsula, the Maori bulldozer driver, Mr VV. J. McLean, is still keeping the exact location oj his reported find a close secret. When Mr McLean’s report was heard in Whitianga there were only four application forms for miners' rights in the post office and these were quickly taken, with tiie result that Mr McLean had to travel to Thames to obtain one for himself. It is learned that he subsequently went to Paeroa and Te Aroha to complete working contracts, leaving his acquaintances and everybody i Isc in speculation on the location of the supposed reef. Mr McLean is expected to return to Whitianga at the week-end to make initial arrangements about working his claim.
