Australia's Population
(1 p.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. Australia's population has risen to 7,448,601, an increase of 818,762 since the last census in 1933, according to the Commonwealth Statistician (Dr Roland Wilson). The population of New South Wales has jumped 323,807 to 2.924,654. He reports that the Australian birthrate has dropped below the wartime peak reached in 1945.
