Late Col. McCook's Impressive Funeral

(Official N.Z. Correspondent with J Force). (Rec. 1.30 p.m.) TOKIO, Jan. 3. Lieutenant-Colonel A. F. McCook, M.8.E., who was killed on Wednesday evening when he accidentally fell from a window on the sixth floor of Empire House, Tokio, was buried this morning with military honours at the BCOF cemetery, Yokohama. Lieutenant-Colonel McCook was formerly assistant ' adjutant and Quartermaster-General of the British Commonwealth occupation sub-area in Tokio.

Funeral services were conducted by Major R. R. Clark, a New Zealand padre, and a firing party of men from No. 14 Squadron RNZAF, at present on guard duties in Tokio, fired three volleys after the service at the graveside, and four buglers from a battalion of the Punjab Regiment sounded the Last Post. The Commander-in-Chief (Lieuten-ant-General Robertson) attended the funeral. REPRESENTATIVE ATTENDANCE A large attendance at the funeral included representatives of all BCOF forces, United States forces and overseas legations and missions. The pall-bearers were Colonel D. Maxwell, New Zealand, commander of the British Commonwealth Occupation sub-area in Tokio; LieutenantColonel Dapice. commanding officer of 5/1 Punjab Regiment; LieutenantColonel Reed Collins, of the British Minor War Crimes Tribunal staff; Major A. Danvers, Indian Army; Major Thomas, Indian Army, and Major Cunneen, of the Australian military forces. Lieutenant-Colonel McCook came to Japan to the headquarters of BCOF early last year, and in June was transferred to Tokio.
