National Party's Gain In Strength
I (P.A.) WELLINGTON. This Day. Although the National Party had | not put the Government out it had \ gone very close, said the president of : the Dominion executive of the Nati ional Party (Mr L. J. Sim, K.C.) yes- | terday.
The gain in both seats and voting strength showed a continued, steady improvement in its position and a corresponding decline in that of the Labour Party,” Mr Sim told a meeting of the executjve.
The National Party could take pride in having kept the campaign on a high plane. It would now resume with determination its work of organisation and preparation in readiness for the next trial of strength which, in view of the positions of the parties, might conceivably come earlier than was expected. Mr Sim paid a tribute to the services rendered by Mr S. G. Holland whose leadership and prestige stood higher than ever as the result of hir conduct of the campaign. The following resolution was carried: “That this Meeting of the Dominion executive of Die New Zealand National Party expresses its great appreciation of the conduct of the recent election campaign by Mr Holland, and pledges its full and unswerving loyalty to him as leader of the party.”
