Passenger Engines To Haul Coal
(Rec. 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 6. The Minister of Transport (Mr Barnes) announced that as from December 9 a number of passenger trains on local main lines would be withdrawn to release engines for the movement of coal and other essential freight. Present local services -would be maintained only during peak periods. Mr Barnes said abnormally low supplies of coal made it necessary to ensure the nromptest distribution.
