Future Form Of Technical Schools

(F.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The nature of technical schools in larger centres will have to be radically changed if there is a strong demand for daytime training of apprentices.

They are likely to become senior technical schools at which mainly trade training is given. Much of the work on the engineering side will approximate to university standard. This statement was made yesterday by. the acting-Minister of Education (Mr Nordmeyer), addressing the annual conference of the Technical Education Association of New Zealand.

“It seems probable." he said, “that these schools may in time become boys' schools only, and other arrangements will have to be made for girls. “Further, they will probably cater for few of the boys in forms 111 and IV.”

If was recognised, the Minister said, that problems would arise in towns of intermediate size in which one school might have to cater for both apprentices and post-primary pupils following ordinary courses.
