Failed To Follow Manpower Direction

(P.A.) INVERCARGILL, Thursday Pearl Ross, a young woman who proceeded to Seacliff Mental Hospital at the direction of the manpower authorities last Tuesday and Jhen left again about two hours later, and returned to Invercargill the same afternoon, appeared before the magistrate (Mr J. Abernethy) in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. Through counsel she pleaded guilty of failing to comply with her direction to Seacliff as a nurse aid. Defendant, at the conclusion of the case this morning in reply to questions by Mr Abernethy, intimated that even if found medically and temperamentally fit for duties, she would still refuse to comply with the direction. The case was adjourned until January 21 so that defendant’s suitability or otherwise for the work could be determined.

“If you are fit and still refuse to go back I will then have to consider the matter of penalty,” commented the magistrate.
