(Rec. 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 19 Mr. Bovin. Mr. Byrnes and M. Molotov lunched at the Spiridonovskaya Palace at an informal and cordial gathering, says Reuter’s Moscow correspondent.
The luncheon preceded the regular session of the Three-Power Conference.
Mr. Bevin earlier saw the French and Chinese Ambassadors. Mr. Byrnes last night had a short privatemeeting with M. Molotov. It is understood that the atmosphere of all meetings so far has been most friendly, with much good-natured banter
Mr. Byrnes has acquired four words of Russian: “Soglasen,” meaning “agreed”; “Da” and Nyet,” meaning “Yes” and “No,” and “Khorosho,” meaning “good.” Mr. Bevin has got as far as “da” and “nyet.” M. Molotov understands a fair amount of English and uses “0.K.” and “good-bye.” The British delegation is still in difficulties as all the staff is still held up in Berlin by weather. Only the heads of the mission and several assistants have arrived in Moscow.
