Kawakawa Butchers Resumed Yesterday
(Special.) KAWAKAWA. This Day. Opening yesterday after having had no meat for sale since closing at the end of last week, the two butchers’ shops in Kawakawa yesterday did not experience a rush, although the amount of meat sold was above that of a normal trading day. The shops were busy this morning. Kawakawa people have not been penalised by lack of meat supplies like those in other parts of Northland, and by undertaking a short journey they have been able to draw supplies of frozen meat from the Moerewa works’ shop. Fowls and eggs are reported to be in plentiful supply in the district and, with frozen meat supplementing these rations, the closing of the butchers’ shops has not been noticed to the same degree as in other centres. Tuna (or eel) catches, also, have been good.
