Harriman New U.S. Ambassador To Soviet
(11.30 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Oct. 1. President Roosevelt has appointed Mr. Averill Harriman United States Ambassador to Russia.
Mr. Harriman, who was previously ■Lease-Lend administrator in Britain, has previously represented President Roosevelt on personal missions to the Kremlin. Although a typical representative of American business, he is known to be sympathetic to the U.S.S.R. He succeeds Admiral Standley, who has become notable for several outspoken criticisms of Russian reactions to material aid being given by the democracies.
