Kaikohe Beef Bull Sale
The necessity for the employment of good sires in an endeavour, owing to the shortage of fertilisers, to rpaintain the standard of beef cattle throughout the North no doubt accounted for the large attendance of buyers at the Kaikohe beef bull sale on Thursday. The demand was considerably in excess of the supply and a number was unable to fulfil requirements.
The entry was composed of maiden twoyear Aberdeen Angus and polled Hereford bulls, which, considering that they were entirely grass fed, came forward in good condition, and reflected considerable' credit on the bx-eeders responsible. Mr. P. H. Going, of Parakao, received the top price of 71 gns. for a nice Aberdeen Angus bull and the whole of his entry averaged 55>/ a gns. The prices for Mr. W. Imms’ entry of 14 Aberdeen Angus bulls bred on his Okaihau property ranged from 37V 2 gns. to 55 gns. and the whole consignment averaged 44 1 / 2 gns. Mrs. B Orr, of Kaikohe, also offered a nice line of Aberdeen Angus bulls which made from 40 gns. to 44 gns. and averaged 41 gns.
In the Hereford section Messrs. Leslie Bros., Kaeo, received up to 53 gns. and averaged 51 1/2 gns., whilst Mr. J. H. Orr’s cattle, bred at Kaikohe, sold to 38 gns and came out with an average of 27i/ 2 gns. The sale was conducted by Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., and the North Auckland Farmers’ Co-op., Ltd., selling in conjunction.
