KAIKOHE. This Day
With all returns to hand, the Patriotic Popular Baby Contest which has been held in Kaikohe during the past two months resulted in a win for the Fire Brigade entry, Nigel Armstrong.
Scores were as follows: Nigel Armstrong (Fire Brigade) 33,210 votes; Merriel Cracknell (Sports) \ 21,768
votes; Elizabeth Steele (W.S. and W. 1.) 20,505 votes; Glen Rockett (Country) 13,250 votes.
With each vote valued at threepence, £llO9/3/0 was thus added to the Patriotic Funds, the sum of over £IOOO having been required to fulfil the district’s quota. Winners of all remaining competitions wore as follows: Fire Brigade: Cord of wood. J. Fausina; envelope, Mrs H. Cantlan 1, Mrs E. MorJ'ette 2. Mr Uppingdale 3.
