Wool Levy The levy on this reason's wool for purposes of the Wool Industry Promotion Act is set out in a Gazette last night. The levy will be sixpence per bale, threepence per lad go and n penny per bag or sack. >.• * + Marsden Official Count Scrutiny of the Marsden rolls used in the recent election has been completed and a start has been made on the official counting of votes. The registrar (Mr T. P. Pain) estimates that the official count will not be completed until Ihe beginning of next week. W * * V Train Hits Jigger An afternoon train going south from Taumarunui yesterday ran into a jigger a mile beyond Raurimu, says a Taumarunui P.A. message. As a result, two men, Ernest Sweeney, ganger, and Clarence William Plank, ganger, were admitted to hospital. Sweeney with injuries to the back and groin and shock, and Plank with concussion and injuries to an arm. The condition of both is .satisfactory.

The existing retail price remains unchanged, that is fid. in the main centres and sfd. elsewhere, therefore the only change is the fixing of the wholesale price which was not dealt with formerly. Marriages Whangarei vital statistics for the quarter from Julv 1 to Sentcmber 30, and the statistics for last month, reveal an increase in births and marriages arid a decrease in deaths. Contrasted with last quarter, births have increased by seven, marriages by six and deaths have decreased by four. Quarter statistics, with those lor the corresponding period last year in parentheses, are: —Births, 112 (105); deaths, 45 (49): marriages, 37 (31). Vital statistics for last month, with figures for September, 1942, in parentheses, are:—Births, 46 (36); deaths. 12 (17): marriages, 13 (10). *. * * Otamatea Council Non-Political “We are strictly a non-political body," said the chairman (Mr. R. Coates) at Wednesday’s meeting of the Otamatea County Council, “but I will move that we send a telegram of congratulation to the Prime Minister and inform him that wo will always be pleased to (welcome him and his Ministers to the Otamatea County. We should also congratulate Mr. T. C. Webb, M.P. for Kaipara, and Mr. A. J. Murdoch, the new member for Marsden.” The motion was seconded by Cr. W. Preston, of Ruawai, and carried unanimously.
