Provita Factory Burned
(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. File gutted the factory of Provita Mills Ltd.. Ferry Rond, Christchurch early yesterday afternoon. Stocks and machinery valued at between C3OOO and £9OOO were destroyed and only the brick walls of the building remain. The factory was carrying abnormally large stocks, including a consignment of cornflour for the North Island. Production had only recently been commenced with a 'new American system of producing cornflour which was expected to treble the factory’s output. Special temperature recording instruments and other valuable Continental and American machinery were also a total loss. The fire started in a drying duct in the cornflour plant and fanned by a strong south-west wind, soon gained good hold on the building. insurances on stock and machinery are not expected to cover the losses. Insura lies are unavailable.
