Y.W.C.A. Civic Corps Is Launched

Another young people's institution has been founded in Whangarei. It is the Y.W.C.A. Civic Corps, under the direction and leadership ci' Miss Fay Aldridge. The first meeting of the club was held last night, and 43 girls were present. Only girls whose ages range from 14 to 18 arepermitted to .join. The code ot the club is: “We will never bring disgrace on this our city by an act of dishonesty or cowardice. We will fight for the ideal and sacred things of this city. We will revere and obey the city’s laws and do our best to encourage a like reverence and respect in those about, us. With God's help, we will strive unceasingly to transmit this city, not only not less but greater and better and more beautiful than it was transmitted to us." The name of the corps shows that the main object of the Y.C.C. is citizenship and to prepare members to take an active part in the life ol the country. Besides training members in the operation of local bodies in the district, and the laws of the city, the Y.C.C. intends to give them training in sport, gymnastics ■aid arts and crafts. Three badges will be issued as members attain different grades in citizenship training. The highest is ihat of "leading citizen."

The corps has a distinctive uniform-navy-blue forage cap, tie and skirt and a white blouse.
