War Photographer Killed
(1.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The American war photographer, Carl Thusgaard, has been killed while returning from a bombing raid on Madang, northern New Guinea. He is the fourth war correspondent to be killed in the South-west Pacific area. The Liberator in which Thusgaard was flying was attacked by nine Zeros. Three enemy fighters were shot down before the American bomber suddenly exploded in mid-air. Thusgaard was the winner of two annual awards given by the New York Professional Photographers’ Association. He had a wife and child living in America. He was a Dane, but had lived in America for some years.
