Whareora Calf Club
The Whareora School yesterday combined its calf club day and break-up ceremony, the whole being a fitting finale for a successful year. Judging the calves were Mr. and Mrs. B. P. Hawken, accompanied by Mr. Dennehy. Results of the calf club show, which was held in the morning, were:—
Light breeds.—Calf-rearing: Senior, M. Cranston 1. R. Clark 2, B. McCallum 3: junior, M. Hobart 1. I. Clarke and G. Hill equal 2. S. Gorrie and F. Easterbrook equal 3. Dairy types: I. Clarke 1, S. Gertie 2, F. Easterbrook 3. Heavy breeds. —W. Maddox 1, D. Maddox 2, T. Maddox 3. Dairy types: W. Maddox 1, D. Maddox 2. T. Maddox 3. Children’s judging.—B. McCallum 1, R. Clarke 2. Adult judging.—Miss A. Hoban 1. B. Hobart 2. Best lamb.—J. McCallum 1, L. Gorrie 2. Luncheon was served to the judges, who were thanked. Mrs. McCallum then distributed her own prizes to the children. She was presented with a bouquet and a writing compendium and calendar as a mark of appreciation from the children and parents, who expressed their appreciation of the work she had done since taking over the school.
