N.Z. Midshipmen In R.N.
(P.A.) WELLINGTON. This Day. The Secivlary for the Navy announces the following results of passing out examination of cadets of the Royal New Zealand Navy held in the Royal Navy College. Dartmouth, England, in Julv. 1842. Cadet J. M. Armstrong', fourth in order of merit, Cadet (E) W. H. Peterson, 7th in order of merit. Cadet C. Thorne. 11th in order of merit. The time gained by these three officers (all of Wellington) is four months. Cadet M. J. McDowell, of Oamaru. 391 h in order of merit, time gained two months. Also passing out at this examination were a special entry of cadets of the Royal Navv. J. G. Corbett, Otorohanga, 16th and J. F. McKenzie. Timaru. 48th.
The Eardlev Howard-Crocket prize has been awarded to Nava! Cadet .T. M. Armstrong. This prize was founded bv the mother of the late Lieutenant E. W. Howard-Crocket. R.N.. and is awarded to the best all-round special entry cadet on passing out for a midshipman. Each term prize consists of books, and or, instruments of a total value of £lO. All these New Zealand cadets have now been promoted midshipmen and are serving at sea in ships of the Royal Navy.
