Calf Club Finale At Kauri School
The last calf club parade for 1942 was held at Kauri on Thursday afternoon. There was a very happy and friendly atmosphere among the largest gathering of adults seen at Kauri since the movement was inaugurated. Tito sun was shining brightly and the children appeared to have communicated the Christmas feeling to their calves. A school show of flowers, vegetables, handwork and cookery was judged by Mrs L. Hawken. while the calves were judged bv Mr B. P. Hawken. Mr Hawken came in for considerable questioning, but emerged with flying colours. The organiser of the R.S.A. Stock Scheme for the district (Mr. J. W. Coxhead) had a busy and successful afternoon.
After afternoon tea had been served, the chairman of the school committee (Mr. A. C. Galpin) presented prizes and certificates. A banner was also presented to the school from the Carrie Hostel in recognition of the good work done by this school in supplying the egg's to go with the bacon for the soldiers’ breakfasts. The calves, decorated with coloured crinkled crepe instead of ribbons, made a prett" sight as they trotted gaily down the road with their owners to commence a six weeks’ holiday, during which time, no doubt both the calves and their owners will get into much innocent mischief.
