Old Boys-Nomads Lose
Central batted first, me opening’ pair being D. and R. Thomas. The batsmen were very cautious at the commencement of play, and just when it appeared that they would settle down, R. Thomas was clean bowled. The next three wickets did not yield many runs, Howell bowling very consistently. Chapman settled down well, and scored with crisp shots, but at 27. was stumped by Hilton, as a result of a smart piece of work. Mason was the bowler. The tail-enders did not score much, although they opened out at loose balls. In the last few overs before the two hours were up runs came fairly quickly, but hesitation -on the part of the batsmen caused them to miss a few runs. Time was up when Central were nine wickets down for 99. Howell and Nisbet opened for Old Boys-Nomads, and they commenced to score fairly freely off Roycroft. However, Roycroft got Howell when he was 13, and Nisbet’s wicket fell when he had 17 runs to his credit. Farquhar and Mason did not score, and things began to look bad, until Madden settled down. However, when 19, he was caught at point b Johnson. It was a low ball, and was cut hard. The catch was a really good one. McLeod, who made 12, was the only batsman who followed him to reach double figures, and Old Boys-Nomads were all out for 69. Scores: Central: D, Thomas, b Howell, 20; R.
