Raider Fired On Zamzam While Passengers Remained
LONDON, May 25
It is revealed that a German raider believed to be the former Norwegian steamer Tamessis, of 7256 tons, hit the Egyption steamer Zamzam eight or nine times on April 17 while the passengers were still on board. Only two Americans and one Egyptian were among the injured Passengers and crew were taken aboard the raider, after which the Zamzam was dynamited. The passengers were later transferred to the motor ship Dresden and were landed at St. Jean de Luz, a small French port in the Bay of Biscay, near the Spanish frontier.
