British Planes Destroy 14 Troop-Carriers
LONDON, May 25 A Royal Air Force Middle East communique states that in Crete extensive damage was caused to enemy aircraft and troops at Malemi by British aircraft yesterday, when bombers attacked large numbers of Junkers 52’s on the aerodrome and beach. Subsequently the enemy were ma-chine-gunned. Preliminary reports show that at least 10 enemy aircraft were destroyed and many others damaged. A reconnaissance carried out later in the day confirmed that many Junkers 52’s were burnt out, and that a large number had been made completely unserviceable. Britain long-range fighters also attacked the enemy at Malemi and destroyed at least four large troopcarriers. Ineffective Raid On Suez A communique issued earlier stated that South African fighters destroyed two Junkers which were attempting to bomb shipping in the Mediterranean.
