Mrs. C. E. O’Callaghan, of Hikurangi, lias received, after a long period of silence, a cablegram from her son Frcnk advising that he is safe and well. Mrs. Reg Scott, of Union Street, is spending a week’s holiday visiting her mother, Mrs. B. Herdson, of Newmarket, Auckland. Mr. Fero, of Waro, has left to reside at Hopahopa camp. Mr. Ted Hughes, of King Street, entered hospital during the week to undergo treatment to his knee. Miss Jean Lomas, of View Road, has returned home after undergoing an operation in hospital. Mrs. Williams and sons, of Hill Street, are now home again after holidaying for a week in Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. M. Edgar, of View Road, are visiting Auckland for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. E. Ayton have returned from a motor tour in the Taranaki and Palmerston districts. Mrs. Shoebridge, of St. Helier’s, Auckland, paid a week-end visit to her parents, Valley Road. Mr. and Mrs. David Clark, Valley Road, have left to take up permanent residence in Auckland. Owing to Mr. Nesbitt, jnr., being transferred to Auckland, Mr. Jack Hayward has again joined the Post Office staff. Mr. G. Fieldes, of King Street, who had the misfortune to injure one of his eyes whilst at work on Monday, is making good progress under treatment. Mr. D. Delaney, of Auckland, has returned after spending a few days with his parents in Hikurangi. Mr. Coutts, of the Epsom Post Office staff, is visiting his parents in Union Street. Mrs. Wilson, of Auckland, is enjoying a few weeks’ holiday with friends in Wilsonville, Hikurangi. Mr. Frank Christie, of Greymouth, paid a short visit to relatives in Hikurangi.
Shooting Season Disappoints
Old shooters operating adjacent to Hikurangi report that game is becoming scarce, and in some areas the sport has not been so bad for years. Occasionally a good bag is reported, but most shooters complain of little success.
