Banks Experience Holiday Rush

[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] AUCKLAND. This Day.

Prior to closing for the Christmas vacation abnormally busy conditions were experienced by Auckland banks. Funds for the holidays were in exceptional demand, resulting in a high level of withdrawals from savings banks, which worked at high pressure during the last two or three days. Trade turnovers also expanded rapidly with the progress of Christmas shopping, the increased flow of spending being reflected in the rise of deposits with the trading banks, while the demands for pay cheques and other payments associated with the season of the year taxed banking resources to the utmost.

The banks closed on Tuesday afternoon until Saturday morning when another rush is expected to cope with the banking of retail takings from Christmas Eve and the demand for further holiday payments.
