12 More Recruits From North
Again maintaining recent recruiting averages, Northland enlistments received at Whangarei Army Headquarters yesterday numbered 12. Country districts were again well tc the fore. European recruits were: Whangarei—J. D. M. Milne. C. C. Mathews, A. Fleming, F. R. Jordan (Whakapara). Wellsford—A. A. Rockcl. A. B. Buckle (Kaiwaku). Hclensvillc—J. H. Salter. J. C. Blackwell lHakaru). Kaikohe—M. A. .Curry (Rawcne), R. S. Buck (Cpua). Maori j'ecruits were: J. Parkes (Rawhiti), W. H. Peti (Motukaraka). Good Week in Area The influence of the gravity of the war situation was shown by the number of recruits for the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force last week. The Northern Military District’s total was 373. the highest for many months. In the Auckland area alone, 185 volunteers came forward. Hamilton contributed 80. Paeroa 6-1 and Whangarei 44. Maori registrations remained fairly static, the district’s total being 37, of which Hamilton and Paeroa were responsible for 11 each, Whangarei had 10 and Auckland received five
