A.H.B. Motion Asks For NonParty Regime
[Special to “Northern Advocate”! AUCKLAND, This Day. In a motion adopted by the Auckland Hospital Board last night, the Government was urged to follow the lead of Great Britain and establish a form of National Government. It was stated in the motion that the board, being a non-party organisation representative of one-sixth of the Dominion’s population and concerned with the serenity, health and wellbeing of the community, advocated the establishment of a Government thus expressing the united opinion of all sections of the community. “Improper, Unjust Allegations.” The chairman (Mr Allan J. Moody) referred to the statements made by the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) in r. broadcast on Sunday night, and said he thought his allegations, which appeared to be mainly directed against the Press, were improper and unjust. I He had no brief for the ‘ newspapers, but if a day arrived when the Press and the voice of the people were stifled, it would be an unhappy state of affairs. “I took the chair at the meeting held in His Majesty’s Theatre last Thursday,” Mr Moody continued. “It was non-political. “I refused to be dragged at the heels of any political party. “I feel that any help or suggestion that can be given by any local authority should be welcomed by. the official, instead of a tirade of abuse being fired as was the case on Sunday night. Best Brains Needed. “The public is 100 per cent, behind the Government so long as it does what the public thinks is right. “Let the best brains available be used, irrespective of party creed.” Mr J. Sayegh said he supported the motion because he was 100 per cent, behind the British Empre in its war effort. However, it would be idle to imagine that it was not a political question. There had been a personal attack nn the Prime Minister, which he considered was in poor taste, and the board could afford to wait until Parliament assembled next week and see what the intentions were.
