Women Auxiliaries Under Military Law

(Received 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, February 23. For the first time in history, women are entering the British Army subject to military law. Women’s auxiliaries in the last war were merely attached to the army. The Commander of the Auxiliary Territorial Service (Mrs Fuller Maitland) has arrived with her staff to begin arrangements for the accommodation of the first batch of 1000 who will serve as signallers, clerks, orderlies and cooks. Courting Restrictions BLK ../ ../ Regulations provide for members cf the A.T.S. to receive four-fifths of the ratings and pay issued to men. Cosmetics are allowed, but must he used with discretion. The army will provide hair tpins. Smart bobs will be the standard cut. A.T.S. officers will be permitted to walk out with officers of the B.E.F. Other ranks may keep company with “Tommies,” but A.T.S. officers must not mix with the “Tommies.”
