400 Northland Recruits Wanted For Third Echelon
Northland’s contribution of men for the Third Echelon of the Second Expeditionary Force and for reinforcements for the First and Second Echelons is 400. This quota is considerably in excess of those for the First and Second Echelons, which were 284 and. 339 respectively. For the First Echelon, Northland sent 382 officers and men and for the Second Echelon 261. Excess Over Quotas. Men sent for the First Echelon in excess of the quota figure were required to fill the quota for another area, while the deficit on the Northland quota for the Second Echelon was filled from another district. Actually the number of men despatched from Northland has been in excess of the added quotas of the two echelons. The number of men available for the Third Echelon is 87, this number having been passed as fit, while about 150 men who have enlisted have yet to be medically examined. Yesterday’s Enlistments. Only eight recruits for the Third Echelon enlisted in Northland yesterday, this figure being less than for some weeks and far below the average. Enlistments received at the Whangarei Army Office, headquarters for the Northland area, were: —
