Four Escape When Train Hits Lorry
I Special to “Northern Advocate ”] NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. Although a lorry taking milk to a factory was smashed to pieces on a level crossing near Kaponga, none*of the four occupants of the lorry were killed.
The accident occurred on the Rowan Road Crossing on the Opunake branch line.
The lorry was struck by a ballast train on its way to Opunake. Mr George Harold John Collins, farmer, living on Rowan Road, was taken to hospital suffering from a deep scalp wound, a cut near the throat and gashes in his right arm. His condition is not regarded as serious.
In the lorry was his father, Mr James Thomas Collins, an elderly man, who is suffering from severe shock, and two small children, Barry Collins, 4, and Harold Collins, 3. The children escaped serious injury.
