Anglo-Japanese Conference

(Received 1 p.m.) TOKIO. July 2G. A three-hour plenary session of the conference between British and Japanese representatives dealt with the sub-commitee’s report on the maintenance of peace and order in Tientsin Concession. Consideration of economic questions will follow, and is regarded as the crux of the conference.

Mr Hachiro Arita, Japanese Foreign Minister, reported to Cabinet that the conference is progressing smoothly. The Foreign Office spokesman, asked what bearing the British-Japanese agreement had on the Nine-Power Treaty, said that the treaty was moribund, but added that Japan had nevei claimed sovereignty in occupied areas.
