[Special to “Northern Advocate”] AUCKLAND. Thursday.

Tire going on No. 3 grass track at Elierslie this morning was very heavy, and in consequence there was title fast work.

Tooley Street came home from the half-mile post in 56 l-ssec. He handled the going well, and was under restraint throughout. Present intentions are to take Tooley Street to Riccarton for the Grand National meeting, and he is expected to leave on Monday. British Talent and Bonny Belle were given a similar task, taking 56 4-ssec. British Talent was going better than his companion at the finish. Tutor did strong work over a round, taking 1.56 4-5, the last half-mile being covered in 59 2-ssec. Tutor is also booked to leave for the south on Monday. He has been working well during the week

j Rey Lu Pleases. j Rey Lu came home from the halfmile post in 58sec„ the final three furlongs taking 42 3-ssec. This maiden is standing up to her work well, and will probably next appear in the Ladies’ Bracelet at the Pakuranga meeting. Chief Scout sprinted three furlongs in 41 2-ssec. It was his first fast workout since coming to Elierslie, and it was a satisfactory effort. He is by Day’s Guide, and he is one of R. S. Bagby’s team. High Quality and Whenua were associated over six furlongs, being timed to run their last half-mile in 57 4-ssec. Whenua shows a fair amount of promise. •

Tupeotu was allotted strong work, coming over the last half-mile in 55 3-ssec. He is doing a good preparation for the Pakuranga meeting, at which he will contest jumping events. On the sand, Palmint sprinted three furlongs in 40 2-ssec., and Melvanui strode over two x’ounds, the last half mile taking 54 4-ssec. Both these horses are likely to be at their best for the spring meetings. Valdene and Clipper are now located at Ellerslie, and will remain there until after the Pakuranga meeting next month.
