There were several other good bowling feats, four men accounting for six wickets in an innings. They were: James Langridge (Sussex), L. J. Todd (Kent), A. W. Wellard (Somerset), H, Verity (Yorkshire).

There was some big scoring, Lancashire declaring at five wickets for 493 runs against Worcestershire, while Yorkshire ran up 502 runs for four wickets against Northants.

The outstanding batsman was J. Iddon, who topped the double century for the Lancastrians at Old Trafford,. where N. Oldfield (who was in New Zealand last summer) compiled another hundred.

In a low-scoring match at Derby the home county beat the strong Middlesex team by six wickets.

Results and principal performances: Gloucester v. Surrey Gloucester; First innings, 210; second innings, 9 for 349, declared (Sinfield 89). Surrey: First innings, 259 (Goddard 7 for 91); second innings, 3 for 301 (Gregory 137 not out). Surrey won by 7 wickets. Middlesex v. Derby Middlesex: First innings, 151 (Compton 80); second innings, 76 (Copson 7 for 39). Derby: First innings, 94 (Sims 4 for 27); second innings, 4 for 136. Derby won by 6 wickets. Essex v. Glamorgan Essex: First innings, 474 (Eastman 87, Avery 161). Glamorgan: First innings, 273; fol-lowed-on, 0 for 32. Rain then stopped play. Essex won on the first innings.

Hants v. Sussex Hants: First innings, 301 (Arnold 109); second innings, 221 (Bailey 79; James Langridge 6 for 75). Sussex: First innings, 286 (Holmes 80); second innings, 4 for 237. Sussex won by 6 wickets.

Somerset v. Kent Somerset: First innings, 163 (Todd 6 for 46); second innings, 185 (Watt 5 for 22). Kent: First innings, 293 (Fagg 77; Wellard 6 for 75); second innings, 2 for 56. Kent won by 8 wickets.

Lancashire v. Worcester Lancashire; First innings, 5 for 493, declared (Oldfield 125, Iddon 217 not out); second innings, 1 for 53. Worcester: First innings, 272; followed-on, 273 (Cooper 104 not out). Lancashire won by 9 wickets. Northants v. Yorkshire Northants; First innings, 216 (Bowes 5 for 43); second innings, 188 (Verity 6 for 58). Yorkshire: First innings, 4 for 502, declared (Yardley 93, Sutcliffe 107 not out, Barber 128 not out). Yorkshire won by an innings and 98 runs. Notts v. Leicester Notts: First innings, 278; second innings, 4 for 263 declared (Heane 94 not out, Hardstafi! 84).
