Easier Tendency On Stock Exchange

Business has been more active on ’change since last report, but the trend of the market is easier. Bank shares and Australian shares, in particular, were weaker at the first call today. Bank of New Zealands had lower quotations between £l/18/- and £1 18/9, while New South Wales sold at a drop of 5/-, with further offers to sell at the same figure. Prices were very firm. Weaker sellers of British Tobaccos at £2/8/9 found best sellers 1/3 lower. There were no inquiries for Broken Hill Pty.. which wore offered at £2 17/-, and most Australian securities were considerably weaker. Woolworths (Sydney), however, sold at a rise of sd.
Among local industrials Gas shares lacked support, but coals and breweries were firm. Radios came closer to business with a market between 15/- and £l. Government stocks were again in keen request, and a higher offer of £9l/5/- for 3i per cent. 1953-57’s brought in a seller at £93. Sales completed at the noon call to’day wore: New Zealand Insurance, £2/14/6; New Zealand Refrigerating, 7/9; Triton, 10/-.
