Kaitaia Swimming Club Formed

• With the . attention focussed on “Learn-tq-Swim” Week, it is quite appropriate that Kaitaia should move to have a swimming club formed. At a recent meeting of enthusiasts under the direction of the Kaitaia Physical Culture Club, the proposal met with an enthusiastic reception. Officers were elected in the persons of Messrs F. Gair,, Dixon, V. fktokle, L. Switzer and:Miss Bannister. ‘" The club is proposing to conduct a carnival within the - next few weeks, and, '-it is proposed to link up the activity with the “learn to swim” campaign. Subscriptions were fixed at: Primary school children, I/-; 18 years and under, 2/6; seniors, 5/-. -y Pool Improvements Suggested.

' ; Suggestions have been submitted for improvements to the swimming pool, particularly in regard to the re-, timbering. The club expressed thanks to Mr A, Switzqf, of Victoria Valley, for the donation of a springboard. The newly-formed club received a ' good impetus by the presence of Mr W.O- Stockley,, of Auckland, official coach in the national campaign, at a special meeting last Saturday evening. . Mr Stockley Present. Mr Stockley was able to advise regarding club organisation and control, which will assist materially in building the club into a strong organisation. On Sunday the visitor attended the swimming pool and continued his encouragement with practical demonstrations .of swimming styles and methods. *■
