Rugby Park Has Spring-Cleaning

Remarkable transformations are taking place at Rugby Park. Since the close of last football season men have been periodically employed draining and cleaning up the ground and the result will be considerable improvement before the coming season. All drains surrounding the football fields have been cleaned and deepened and the fields themselves have been mole-drained, the drains where possible being nine feet apai’t. Will be Sown Shortly. Disc harrowing was undertaken immediately after the football season ended, and both fields have now been transformed into a fine seed bed, ready for late February or early March sowing. Mr E. B. Glanville, Agricultural Instructor, Whangarei in conjunction with Mr Bruce Levy, Director of the Government Grasslands Division was rcponsible for supplying the seed mixture and manure to he used in the i sowing. Other'Government officials have also rendered assistance in technical aspects of the work. During the draining operations a large quantity of small stones come te the surface. These stones have now been cleared from the playing surface, and are being used to form metal paths round the grounds.

Better Views Possible.

On the rise above No ground terraces have been constructed to enable a better view and more- comforablo accomodation for spectators. Tracks have been made leading up and down these terraces across the drain. All fences in the park are being repaired and a new fence has been conducted from the altered entrance to the grandstand. The old entrance has been closed 'and access is now. by means of a more easily graded path. 1 From Alexander Street to the High School the Public Works Department, is laying down a new pathway which' will shortly be asphalted. This will prove a great benefit to football patrons as the tranck can be used as an entrance to the park, Gorse Removed. Corse which formerly grew at random on different part of the park has been removed.

About the stand itself metal is being spread to improve facilities here. Three men are employed on the work but next week another four will\be placed on this undertaking.
