Finance For Cruising Club’s New Building
The erecti'on of the Whangarei Cruising Club’s new club-house below Victoria Bridge, opposite the present premises, is to be financed by the Whangai’oi Harbour Board. For this purpose the board will raise a Government loan of £I3OO. At the December meeting last year a deputation from the club waited on the board asking that it raise the loan. The board had granted the club a renewable lease-of a section suitable as the site for a now building, but, not being a local body, the club could not itself obtain a loan from the Government.
It was submitted that under the Physical Welfare and Recreation Act. the board had been given authority to raise the desired loan. Harbour Board to Help.
The question was referred to the board’s Legal Committee, which presented the following resolution at today’s meetfng: “That the board agrees to borrow the amount necessary for the erection of the cruising club’s new club-house' estimated to cost £ 1300, conditional on the club’s producing guarantees of not less than £200.”
The Legal Committee was authorised to confer with the club and to proceed with negotiations for raising the loan.
