Gathering Of Champions Today
[Special to “Northern Advocate ”l AUCKLAND, This Day. Play in the fours —the blue riband event of the Ne\fr Zealand championship bowling tournament—was continued on 22 Auckland and suburban greens to-day. Principal interest this morning centred in Section K, where W. H. Whittle (Grey Lynn), W. C. Franks (Balmoral), E. Jury (Ponsonby), C. P. Cross (England), C. A. Finch (Cambridge) and A. Tiplady (Eltham) engaged in a gathering of champions. There was a splendid contest between Cross and Jury, the English skip getting the victory by a single point. Whittle accounted for Finch by a three-point margin, and Franks led at the end of a close game with Tiplady. F. Livingstone, the Onehunga skip, defeated M. Greville, of Dargaville, by | two points, in Section V, at Devonport. I H. Wilson, of Dunedin, the 1938 j champion fours’ skip, had an easy win Iby 28 points to 12 against L. Grace (Onehunga).
