Mr. Herbert Ball
OBITUARY
The death occurred at the Northern Wairoa Hospital, Te Kopuru, on Friday evening, of Mr Herbert Ball, of Matakohe. Deceased, who was the son of the late Mr J. J. and Mrs Ball, had been ill for the past three weeks, and he succumbed following an operation. Born in Matakohe 37 years ,ago, Mr Ball spent all his life in farming pursuits in that locality. Although never taking an active part in public affairs, deceased was respected by a wide circle of friends. A widow and three children are left to mourn their loss. The interment took place on Sunday, at Matakohe, where a large gathering assembled to pay their last respects to .a settler bearing a name with which is closely intertwined the history of Matakohe.
Mrs. Margaret Teesdale
['Special to “Northern Advocate ”] AUCKLAND, This Day. The death occurred on Saturday of Mrs Margaret Teesdale, an old resident of Whangarei, at the home of her daughter, Mrs G. Walters, Ellerslie, in her 91st year. Mrs Teesdale arrived 'at Auckland from England with her husband in 1878 by the ship May Queen. Soon after, Mr Teesdale took up a block of 300 acres of virgin land at Mavua, being one of the first setlers in that part of the district. Four years after his death in 1912, Mrs Teesdale made her home in Auckland, where she remained until her death. She retained very good health, and took part in the diamond jubilee reunion of surviving May Queen passengers and their descendants held last October. Mrs Teesdale is survived by seven sons and two daughters. There are 22 grandshildren and 12 great-grand-children.
