MANGONUI. On Thursday last Public Works employees' held a small dance in McKay's Hall. The music was supplied by members' of their own orchestra with extras by Mrs W. H. Subritzky and Miss Mavis Wralhall. The following items were rendered: Songs, by Miss Jane Henry and Mr Wesley Renata and a guitar solo by Mr Douglas Renata. The winners of the Monte Carlo waltz were Mr and Mrs Stan Harris and Mr and Mrs Ben Shepherd were the winners of the statute log cabin. The winners of the iced cakes were Mrs Serbin and Mr W. S. Wrath all. Mr Archie Wells carried out the duties of M.C. A very dainty supper was handed round by the ladies. Personal. Mr and Mrs R. Laybourne arc visiting Auckland and the Waikato. Miss June Bergh.au haS returned home after a few weeks vacation. Mrs Moorhouse, of Hawera, is visiting her daughter, Mrs Sam Yates. She is accompanied by her granddaughter, Miss Sheila Cameron. MANGAMUKA BRIDGE The fortnightly debate held in the Women’s Institute hall was not so well attended as the former ones, owing to the prevalence of influenza in the district. The subject was ‘"That New Zealanders take sport too seriously.” Mr. V. Cauty (leader) and Mr. M. M'ulcahy tok the affirmative and Mr. L. Forbes (leader) and Mrs. L. Forbes the negative. Mr. D. Cameron was in the chair and Mr. O. Perry acted as judge. The affirmative won by a small margin. The members of the Hokianga Golf Club and the friends of Mr. A. Steele, teacher at Omahuta, met in Mr. M. Crali an’s residence to say farewell to Mr. Steele, who is leaving the district for Auckland. Mr. C. Mi. Robertson, president, on behalf of the club, in wishing him the best of luck, presented, him with a pipe as a slight token of their esteem. Community singing, and an excellent supper provided by the ladies, brought the evening to a close.

Rawene South Hokianga Rugby. The following players have been selected by Mr W. Cochrane, sole selector, to represent South Hokianga for the Harding Shield, to be played at Kaltaia next Saturday:— Backs: Erockliss, Whitefield, Hohepa, Te Tai. Kahi, Hargreaves, Kelly, Wharerau; forwards: McGowan, Boyd, Parker, Baker, Wharerau, Marsh, McDonald, Ingram. Ferguson.

By defeating Rawene by 6—3, Waima were the winners of the South Hokianga senior competition and also the “caps” presented by Mr E. B, Gardes for the winning team. General News. A number of teachers from outlying districts advocated a “travelling clinic.” but, owing to the much heavier initial cost, together with the heavy upkeep for a clinic of that type, members decided to have the clinic stationary, with the headquarters at Rawene. and that all children needing dental treatment would be conveyed to the centre.
