Mr. Stewart At Parakao
Mr P. McG.- Stewart, the Labour candidate for the Kaipara electorate, was accorded an. attentive hearing when he addressed a meeting at Parakao last Friday night. Mr Stewart dealt with the Labour Party’s policy and principles, and hoped his supporters would show the same courtesy to his opponent as he had received at his meetings. ' In comparing the compensated price for butter sponsored by the Hon. A. Hamilton, and the minimum guaranteed price suggested by the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, with the present guaranteed price, he said he did not know one farmer who was willing to give up the guaranteed price principle. The speaker, quoting from the Official Year Book, stated that although the cost of living had increased, the incomes of all classes had increased infinitely more.
Mr Stewart dealt with various planks of the Labour platform and said that there was no reason why. New Zealand should have a slump when other countries deflated. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr Stewart at the conclusion of the address. Mr Stewart had a well-attended meeting at Ararua on August 24, when Mr Garmson was voted to the chair. At the conclusion of his address, Mr Stewart was accorded a vote of confidence without dissent.
