t Special to “Northern Advocate.”} AUCKLAND, This Day.

Remarking that with the march of progress people were apt to forgot the monumental part played in the development of New Zealand by the pioneei’s, prominent among whom were surveyors facing danger, difficulty, hax’dship and privation, the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, extended an official welcome to the delegates from all parts of the Dominion who attended the fiftieth annual meeting, and also the fiftieth anniversary of the foundation of the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors, today. Mr. G. K. Grierson, the president, was in the chair, and returned thanks for the welcome to Auckland. A feature of the conference was the presentation to Mi - . E. V. Blake, of Auckland, of the Fulton Bequest medallion for the best technical subject dealt with during the year by a member of the Institute. This is the first award of the medallion, and the paper submitted by Mr. Blake was entitled "Surveying, a major factor in town planning." i
