Unabated Scramble For Gold
LONDON. August 10. The scramble for gold continues unabated. French businessmen, alarmed at the sudden return of the Prime Minister M. Daladier. from the Mediterranean, sold francs heavily, while many in London are inclined to the view that Mr. Chamberlain was
not forced to interrupt his holiday by nasal catarrh alone. Bulk orders came from the Continent, but a novel development is purchases on behalf of America, South America and the Far East. M. Daladier, in a statement to the Paris press, declared that France’s financial position was satisfactory, deposits are at present exceeding withdrawals from the savings bank, conti’ary to normal holiday expectations.
