Wide Support for National Bacon Championship

In its plan for widening the scope of the National Bacon Fig Championship by the promotion of supplementary provincial competitions, the Whangarei A. and P. Society has received already an encouraging measure of Support.

A leading A. and P. Society in each of the eight districts controlled by a Pig Council has been circularised by the Whangarei A. and P. Society, inviting them to conduct that section of the competition judged on the hoof. After the live pigs have been judged ait the district shows, they will become thb property of the Whangarei A. arid F. Society, which will undertake financing and assemble the carcases for final judging as bacon at the Whangarei Winter Show.

Over £2OO in prize-money will bo available.

East Coast and Taranaki Co-operate. The secretary of tire Dannevirke District A. and P. Society has written as follows:

“I'have gone carefully through the schedule of details in connection with the 1939 National Bacon Pig Championship and, on behalf of my association, have pleasure in accepting the offer. We will do our best to conduct the East Coast provincial section of the competition in a satisfactory manner. “I wish to congratulate you on your enterprise and wish the competition the success it deserves. The prizes offered are excellent and would go a long way towards encouraging the pig sections at our shows.” The secretary of the Taranaki Metropolitan A. and P. Society (New Plymouth) has written: “I am directed by the cCihmittee to say, that they will be pleased to conduct the Taranaki provincial section of your 1939 National Bacon Pig Championship, and authorise you to advertise this’’fact. The committee intends to do all it can to stimulate interest in the championship in this part of the district;” > t
