Miners Reject Premier’s Offer
SYDNEY, August 8. The coalminers’ convention today decided that the offer made by the Premier, Mr B. S. Stevens, of a tribunal to inquire into the safe working of mines, will not be acceptable. They claim that the issue of safety in mines cannot be separated from othei issues, namely, shorter hours and pensions for aged miners. The delegates interpret the Premier’s offer as an attempt to sidetrack the miners, and whittle down their claims.
