University Extension Lecture
Recommendations to the Auckland University College regarding the proposed University Extension Gestures in Whangarei were made at a meeting of the special civic committee on Thursday night. Those present, were the Mayor (Mr W. Jones), the Town Clerk (Mr L. O. Hall), Cr. D. J. Thomson, Rev. Father Mcßreen and Messrs F. W. Reed. J. D. Mitchell ,and J. A. Inkster. After discussing the list of lectures submitted by the University College authorities, the following were recommended: — Professor H. Belshaw (lecturer in economics, Auckland University College), “Problehms of Population.” Mr E. M. Blaiklock (lecturer in classics. Auckland Univeristy College), “Archaeology of the New Testament.” Professor Sewell (lecturer in English, Auckland University College), “Queen Victoria.” Mr K. E. Bullen (lecturer in mathematics, Auckland University College) “Earthquakes.” illustrated in part by lantern slides. In the event of a suitable lantern not being obtainable for the lastnamed lecture, it is suggested that Professor Rutherford, of the Auckland University College bo asked to deal with a topic arising out of his recent visit to England. Judging by the popularity with which last year’s lectures were acclaimed in Whangarei, the proposed series for this year should meet with the approval of the local public. Steps will be taken to make final arrangements as soon as a definite reply is received from Auckland concerning Whangarei’s recommendations.
