Northland Centennial Celebrations
At the meeting of the Northland Centennial Celebrations Committee held on- Thursday afternoon, advice was received from the producers that the moving film of Northland would be ready for screening on August 31. It was accordingly decided to hold a meeting of representatives of all local bodies and other organisations throughout Northland at the Kaikohe Picture Theatre at 11 a.m. on Thursday. September 1. The film will be exhibited and discussed between 11 a.m. and midday, and the afternoon devoted to considering by what method the people of Northland as a united body and .province will celebrate the centenary of New Zealand. It was pointed out in a letter from the secretary of the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition that the new proposals to lay out the whole of the Provincial Court block as a model of New Zealand would not mean the scrapping of provincial courts, as had been gathered from newspaper reports. The letter went on to say that such was not the case at all, and the new scheme may not involve any sacrifice of material features contemplated by provincial committees. The question of representation at the Centennial Exhibition will be fully discussed on September 1, as also will all other matters concerning the celebration of the centennial as a united province.
