Lorry Lurches Into Kaiwaka River
! Negotiating a sharp bend near j McKay's Bridge, Kaiwaka, a motor 1 lorry owned by Mr Ken Jackson, of i Huarau. and driven by Mr W. David, |of the Public Works camp at KaiI waka. fell ten feet into the river, and I submerged, so that only the cabin apj pen red above the water. The four j occupants had a miraculous escape | from serious injury, but all suffered : shock and stiffness from immersion iin the bitterly cold water. Mr D. j Stead received a cut on his forehead. 1 The accident was caused by the ; wheels nf the truck becoming locked. Completely out of control it lurched across the road and over the steep i bank.
